Bradley Scott Gibson's Obituary
Bradley Scott Gibson, 68 years young, passed away on April 2nd in Salt Lake City, Utah, from cancer.
He was born in Henderson, Nevada, on May 5th, 1956, to Donna Rae Galbreath and Chester Lee Gibson. Within a few years, his mother and he relocated to Long Beach, California. Bradley attended many summer bible schools and a preacher summer camp when he was 11 in upstate New York. He spoke off the cuff on any subject and enjoyed talking to anyone. In his youth, he was an avid surfer, and in the last years of his life, longed for the waves of his home state. While working at Bank of America, he met his friend and wife of 40 years, Rosa Judith Piñeda, the love of his life. They married on July 14, 1984, in Los Angeles, California. Rosa and Bradley have one daughter, Candace Gibson.
Despite living in Utah for 35 years, Brad adamantly identified as an Angeleno. He was a poet, music enthusiast, film buff, and an aspiring novelist. He entered several writing competitions and left behind many drafts of novels and short stories. Brad was civically and politically engaged. He volunteered with the Utah Aids Society and was a member of the Salt Lake chapter of Amnesty International. He enjoyed going to the movies at the Broadway Cinemas with his daughter, or as he called her, Buttercup. Brad attended concerts and plays with his wife and enjoyed traveling to national parks. He was delighted when he could quote Lenny Bruce or George Carlin in a conversation.
He is survived by his wife, daughter, and brother, Mark Hickman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wants to thank Intermountain Health and the team at Utah Cancer Specialists, including his oncologists, Dr. Scott Samuelson and Dr. Vilija Avizonis, for their care and compassion for Bradley. They extend their gratitude to Dr. David C. Griffin for his life-saving surgery when Bradley fought his first bout with cancer.
We love you. Rosa and Candace miss you.
