Lana Matthews Herrera's Obituary
Lana Matthews Herrera, age 79, passed away on February 6, 2022, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on October 18, 1943, in Virgin, Utah to Adelia Flanigan Matthews and George Eli Matthews.
Widowed, Carl Herrera
Lana was raised in the still very wild and remote Virgin, Utah in 1943. She graduated from Hurricane High School and was the homecoming queen of her graduating class. During her school years she enjoyed dance, ballet and music. Prior to moving to Salt Lake City, she danced for a brief period with Ballet West.
The time she spent in Southern Utah made her strong in love and spirit. This same strength, love, compassion, desire to see her children do well drove her throughout life, if not at most toward the end. Her compassion and generosity extended to everyone she met, from neighbors to strangers. In her presence, her focus was always on the person in her presence and their life.
She shared a love for animals and they were uniquely drawn to her in return. Often she would visit her son’s home and horse property in Erda, Utah. Lana had an uncanny ability to display “animal whisperer” tendencies as witnessed in all of her families’ pets and their unique interaction and their unwillingness to leave her side when she visited.
Lana loved her family deeply. Lana is survived by her son Scott (Kimberly) Stroh, and their sons Hayden and Carson; her daughter Teresa (John) Kranz and their daughters Sarah and Kate; and her son Shane Stroh and his boys Christopher and Garrett; and several nieces and nephews.
Lana was preceded in death by her husband, grandparents, parents and her brother, LeRoy Matthews and sister, MaryLou Maxwell.
