Adrianna Lee Costello-Martin's Obituary
Adrianna Lee Costello, age 51, passed away on June 18, 2022, at her home in Salt Lake City,
due the insidious disease, ovarian cancer, surrounded by her 4 children, siblings and her
mother. She was born on February 7, 1971, in Los Angeles, CA. to Deborah Heger and R.
Craig Costello.
Anna, as she was known by siblings and dear friends, moved to Provo, Utah, in July 1972,
because her Pop couldn't stand the thought of his firstborn, his new baby girl, breathing L.A.
smog. The family moved to Orem in October 1974 and Adrianna spent her school years on Palisade
Drive, where 6 more siblings joined the family. She graduated from Orem HS in 1989, where she was on the track team one year and also participated in the Jr. Miss Pageant her junior year. She also studied the piano for several years and played beautifully. She would rise at 6:30am to practice while her parents would lie in bed and shake their heads in amazement at her dedication. She attended Utah State for two years, working the summers at the North Rim, Grand Canyon. At the end of her first summer there, she hiked from the north to the south rim, a 23 mile trek, in 13.5 hours, with her mom and pop. In 1996, Adrianna became a Certified Natural Childbirth Educator at the American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth (AAHCC). She was the only student in her class to complete all the book work before the class began. She graduated from the University of Utah in 2002.
Adrianna was a life-long student. Her library was small, but diverse. She had books on
Philosophy, Science, Mythology and Historical Fiction. Also lots of books about pregnancy and
birth. Of course she had the entire set of “Anne of Green Gables” the same books she read as
a girl, “ Little House on the Prairie'', also from childhood, and all of the “Harry Potter” collection.
Adrianna’s passion was her chosen career---that of educating women and their partners of the
power of womanhood, especially during pregnancy and childbirth. To lead and accompany a
couple during this momentous time when they go from being a couple to a family, bonded her to
her students in a way rarely ever seen in other professions. She was a doula to many of her
students, and assisted in many births. She regretted that she never had those official letters,
CNM, behind her name, but she was a true midwife in every sense of the word, earning her
“degree” through actual hands-on experience. Testaments to this can be seen in the many
tributes paid to her on the social media platforms of which she was a part.
Adrianna is survived by her 4 children, Caleb, 28; Claudia, 26, and their father, Karl; Leo,17;
Phoebe, 12, and their father, Michael; her mother, Debbie; siblings: Caleen (Bret); Matt
(Patricia); Luke; Molly (Paul); Maren (Glen); Elise (Clay); 6 nephews, 10 nieces and numerous
cousins, aunts and uncles. Last, but not least, are her two cats, Nox and Lumous and her
“doggy boyfriend” Thor.
Adrianna is preceded in death by her four grandparents; Aunt Kathy and Uncle Mark on her
mother’s side; Aunt Ann on her father’s side and her father, Craig, whom she called ”Pop”.
There will be an outdoor Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 9, at 7pm at Adrianna’s beloved
63 West Boulevard Gardens. Please bring your own lawn chair.
