Anita Jewel Garry's Obituary
Anita Jewel Garry, age 92, of Salt Lake City passed away peacefully at home with Debbie and Ken by her side on Tuesday, October 19th, 2021.
Anita was born June 29, 1929 to William Henry and Maude Belle (Calhoon) Lehr in Victor, Colorado. She lived in Victor until 1942 when she was in junior high and moved to Denver, Colorado. She married Kenneth M. Garry on September 5, 1955 and enjoyed 49 years of marriage. They raised their family in Denver then moved to Salt Lake in 1981. Grandma Lehr and Diane moved with them. Debbie joined them a little later. Anita's greatest love was her family. And all her children were proud to call her mom.
Anita is survived by her children, Debbie Bouldin, Donna Zimmerman (Brad), Ken Garry (Becky) and son-in-law Frank Scott.
8 Grandchildren: Danielle Syfrett (Jon), Josie DeGoede (Peter), Kristy Garry, Shannon West (David), Nichole Ring (Levi), Jamie Zimmerman, Alisa Scott and Addie Skinner (Austen).
8 Great Grandchildren: Annabelle, Scarlett and Rose Syfrett, Charlie and Harper West, Joshua and Marie DeGoede and Liliana Ring.
Anita is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth M. Garry, daughter, Diane Lynn Scott, her 6 siblings, Thelma Clark (Ervin), Sylvia Happy (John), Lowell Lehr (Ona), Martha Waddel (Ben), Alice Pribbenow (Frantz/Paul) and Virgiebelle Stevens(Richard).
Mom was well loved by everyone. She had great relationships with family, neighbors, hair dresser and even her doctors. She was a caregiver to her mother and instilled this quality in Diane who cared for her for many years. Upon Diane's death, Debbie stepped up and took great care of her.
Mom's wish in life was to be a wife, mother, and secretary. She accomplished all three wonderfully. Not only was she a secretary before she got married, she was Dad's at home secretary for many, many years. Mom truly supported Dad in all of his endeavors. She would go with him on business trips and she even moved to Salt Lake since that's what Dad's job required. She looked back at this move as one of the biggest surprises of her life. She wasn't fond of our Lake Powell trips living on a houseboat but she was quite the trooper even though she could not swim and was afraid of the water.
From her memory book-"My pastimes: cross stitching, watching TV, taking care of Alisa and Addie. Enjoying all of my granddaughters. They are all so precious to me."
When asked what she wanted for birthdays or special occasions she always said she wanted us to visit. If she could have had it, her family would have all lived together. Mom taught us good morals and how to be good people. Her final entry in her memory, "My life has been pretty wonderful. I didn't realize until my later years that there were so many problems in the world. I thought everybody was happy?" A message to her children. "Stay as sweet as you are. Take good care of my beautiful granddaughters."
We will all really miss her.
