Barbara Helen Place's Obituary
Barbara Helen Pasczyk Place, aged 88, died on August 18, 2023. She was born in Bloomfield, NJ on July 6, 1935 to Polish immigrants, Zigmund Pasczyk and Rose Borowy-Pasczyk.
Barbara attended Bloomfield High School class of 1953 and married Roy Place of Belleville, NJ on February 13, 1955 at St Valentine’s Church. He preceded her in passing in 2002.
Barbara held many jobs throughout her life but her favorite was with Jafra Cosmetics in Westlake Village, California. Roy and Barbara loved to travel and lived in many interesting places. While in the Army, Roy was stationed first in Germany and then Georgia. They later resided in Massachusetts, Minnesota, Northern and Southern California, and finally settled down in Sandy, Utah in 1989.
Barbara loved being a member of the Cathedral of the Madeleine’s Women's League and was voted Woman of the Year in 1997. Her Sunday morning coffee hour offerings were spectacular and were a way for her to connect with people in the parish, demonstrating her generous heart for hospitality. She also volunteered many hours to the Good Samaritan Program.
A avid reader of mysteries and biographies, a collector of classic movies, and a lover of music, her true passion was decorating. Her home reflected her sharp eye for antiques and for finding beauty in the smallest of things.
She leaves behind her children, Holly Ricklefs (Kevin), Laurie Nichols (Jim), and Ken Place (Jane), as well as prior daughters-in-law Cathie Place and Patty Fitzpatrick; grandchildren Melissa, Mathew, and Megan Place, Zak and Sam Ricklefs, Christopher, Tyler and Amanda Nichols, and Jerrod and Jenny Place.
She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Roy Place, her beloved son, Dan, her five sisters and one brother.
The family would like to thank Escalante of Draper for taking such good and gentle care of our mother since her utterly debilitating stroke in July of 2009. They became like family to her during the many years she resided there. Special thanks to her amazing hospice nurses, Ashley and Shauna.
A private family funeral Mass will be held in her honor.
