Betty Lou Carrig's Obituary
Betty Lou Carrig, our dear mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on June 24, 2021.
She was born February 20, 1925 to Estella and Walter Bradshaw. She loved her childhood and felt lucky to grow up in the heart of Salt Lake City. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She graduated from East High School before attending the University of Utah and shared many fond memories of her time there throughout the years.
Betty Lou married Dennis Carrig and together they filled their Rose Park home with seven wonderful children. She loved her home and having a big family to share it with. She also loved working at Bratton’s Grotto, where she made many life-long friends. She enjoyed parties, gatherings, and any celebration that brought her family together. She loved celebrating all the family birthdays, especially her own, and was quite particular about celebrating them on the “correct day” whenever possible. Betty Lou was an amazing cook, regularly hosted Sunday dinners for her family over the years, and hands-down made the best gravy in all of Salt Lake City. Being a city girl at heart, she also enjoyed dressing up for a night on the town, seeing plays or the ballet. She saved every card, souvenir, memento, drawing, and gift she ever received - and she knew every detail about who gave it to her, why, and when! Her memory was amazing and hopefully genetic! Betty Lou loved her family unconditionally. No matter how many flops or what type of follies were made over the years, she only saw the best in each of us. We are extremely gratefulwe got to have her with us for so long!
Betty Lou is survived by her two beloved siblings, Wally (Carolyn) Bradshaw and Garnette Fenton, her children, Pat (Bobby) Carrig; Lynn (Bob) Munden; Tim (Shaunna) Carrig; Stella (Dennis) Bennett, Shannon (John) Harte, and 29 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Carrig, sons David DeGooyer and Michael Carrig, and her grandson, Dennis Jones.
Our family would like to give special thanks to Betty Lou’s Rose Park friends and neighbors. You looked after her, cared for her, and made her feel so loved! Thanks also to Dr. Ahn. Mom trusted everything you said! Thank you for helping her manage the aging process with dignity! Thanks to the wonderful staff at Sunrise of Holladay. We are so grateful for your compassion and care throughout the past year. Thanks also to Kim Grover, RN and her team at Summit Hospice. You helped all of us through this unwelcome journey, giving us your love, wisdom, and an immeasurable kindness. We could not have been in better hands!
A viewing will be held at Neil O'Donnell Funeral Home located at 372 East 100 South on Tuesday, June 29th from 6-8 pm. Memorial services will be held also at Neil O'Donnell Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 30th at 11 am, with a viewing one hour prior. Betty Lou will be laid to rest with her husband and sons at Mt. Calvary Cemetery following the service.
