Donald Dean Downey's Obituary
Donald Dean Downey, 85, passed away on Sunday, July 4 from kidney failure. Don was born September 26 1935 in Creston, Iowa to Earl and Agnes Staley Downey.
After growing up in Creston, Don enlisted in the U.S. Airforce where he started his telecommunications career. Don then went to work for Union Pacific Railroad, working all over the western half of the U.S. retiring in 1998 after 40 years of service.
Don married Norma Jackson in 1959, later divorced. Don married Viola Gutierrez in 1976, forming a partnership that lasted until her death in 2018. Don loved to camp and fish, especially in the Uintah Mountains. Don is preceded in death by his parents , brother Glen, and his wife Viola. Survived by daughter Donna Downey, step children Lupe(Alfonso) Lopez, Mel (Lynn) Gutierrez, Mike (Darlene) Gutierrez, Annette Gutierrez Smith, Abby (Dave) Smart. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren and his special companion, dog Chica.
A viewing will be held at Neil O'Donnell Funeral Home from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm 372 E 100 S. Salt Lake City Utah 84111 on Sunday July 11, 2021.
A private interment will follow at Mt Calvary at a later time.
