Edwin Yervant Aksay's Obituary
Edwin Yervant Aksay\r\n"Ed"\r\n \r\n\r\nA hearty laugh and a brilliant smile. These are the things we will miss the most of our beloved brother and friend, Edwin "Ed" Yervant Aksay, who died on July 9, 2017. Born June 26, 1951, in Istanbul, Turkey, to Hayik and Anahit Askay He graduated Getronagan Armenian Secondary and finished his education at the Macka Technical School.\r\n\r\nEd came to the United States in 1979, joined the National Guard and studied linguistics, speaking five languages. For a short time, Ed worked as an accountant. An avid news reader Ed spent his pre-retirement years working in a magazine shop. He donated his time being Deacon in the Armenian Orthodox Church. Ed enjoyed the simple routine of life and his Sugarhouse Bungalow. He spent nearly every morning reading the Salt Lake Tribune, followed by some white bread and tea. He enjoyed reading his religious books and spent many hours praying. He actively helped others in need and would be available for most anyone at the drop of a hat.\r\n\r\nEd was a faithful American, he was knowledgeable and up to date on most National and World Affairs. He enjoyed topics of many sort. He knew so much, and always strived to learn more.\r\n\r\nFor 17 years Ed lived next door to his neighbor Emily. Together they built a father-daughter like relationship. Ed participated in most of her activities. The last event the two shared together was on June 26th, his birthday, a trip to Bear Lake.\r\n\r\nOne of the events he enjoyed most was Emily's Fireworks Party, where he met his dear friend, Michele G, with whom he spent many nights playing CLR together and talking about the Middle-Eastern conflict. He also enjoyed Wednesday night meatloaf at the American Legion, Post 71. He was also able to visit Las Vegas this year where he had a very good time.\r\n\r\nDuring the days he would visit his friend Mike's shop, Middle Eastern Bakery. There he would talk to his friend Lucy. He loved every moment of those visits. He cherished her friendship. He would always speak how sweet she was, and a great cook!\r\n\r\nEd had many friends and many stories. He involved himself in many activities such as Rotary Club, Armenian Club, and most recently the Italian American Civic League.\r\n\r\nEd had a lust for life like no one else. However his heart never worked optimally. And sadly, this poorly functioning heart is what led Ed to the heavens.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his sister, Iris Askay Gullbenk (Alber), one niece, Lori, and many, many friends.\r\n\r\nFuneral services will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 South 300 West. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South. Funeral directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons.
