James Emerson Burt's Obituary
Jim passed away surrounded by loved ones after suffering several medical complications in the last few months of his life.
He was a Father, Grandpa, Uncle, and friend to many people who loved him dearly, and he was the companion to his love, Barbara Arriola Adams, for the past 20 years. He is survived by his sons Jeff, Todd (Nora), Jason (Shannon), his sister Linda Berry (Ron), brother Bob Burt (Darian), and sister-in-law Pat Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilma and Harold Burt, brother Lynn and ex-wife JoAnn. He leaves behind his combined 25 grandchildren, their spouses, and 17 great-grandchildren.
At 18 years old, Jim went to work for the phone company Mt. Bell/ATT, where he worked in different areas as a technical specialist until his retirement. He often talked of the many changes he worked through coming into “the modern age” of telephones.
If you knew Jim, you knew of his Love for the New York Yankees and The University of Utah Utes. Any time his phone rang, you would hear the Utah Fight Song.
He spent many hours serving the less fortunate as an officer in the Salvation Army. He was instrumental in starting The Angel Tree program, working in their Thrift Stores and their Drug and Alcohol programs, and many others.
Jim was a man of faith, always learning and reading his scriptures every morning. While enjoying his wine or Jameson, he would reminisce by singing his old Salvation Army songs.
When Jim became interested and decided to join the Catholic Church, he went through the RCIA class with Father Carley (not only when he converted but two additional times with two special friends he sponsored). He was a faithful member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in West Jordan.
Many loved Jim, making friends wherever he went. He will be missed by all, especially his love BaBa, Barbara.
