John Earl Worthen's Obituary
“How can a dream come true if you don’t have a dream."
John Earl Worthen, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in S.L.C., Utah on Sunday November 10, 2024.
John Earl Walton was born August 25, 1941 in Ely, Nevada: The second and final son of Gerald Basil Walton and Caroline Jessop Walton (later Worthen). At the age of 8 he acquired his step fathers surname.
John was blessed with an exceptionally brilliant mind. He was fearless in sports, business and life. John was a champion marble player, the starting guard on a championship all-church basketball team and a starting diver on the U of U swimming team.
In business John was an unapologetic entrepreneur. From swimming pools to mining, to real estate, lumber, oil and gas, technology and even crypto currency, he was a dreamer and a fearless innovative investor and promotor, a major player in the early Utah stock exchanges. This made him a millionaire at times, a pauper at others, yet he never let go of his fearless attitude and drive for success. He enjoyed the game and played it with all his heart.
John is survived by his wife Laura of S.L.C. 2 sons Johnny (Michelle), Skye (Lindsey): 3 daughters Lisa, Daxilee and Elleona. Siblings Jerry Walton and Diane Worthen (Van Sickle). 4 Grandchildren, Caius, Katarina, Marcus, and Legend. Preceded in death by his son McKeen.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 22 at Neil O’Donnell Funeral Home, 372 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City, UT 84111. Viewing at 11:00 a.m. Family prayer prior to service at 12:00 pm. Internment to immediately follow, 1:30 p.m. Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S, Millcreek, Utah 84117
