Katherine A. Polanshek's Obituary
\r\n1943-2016\r\n \r\n\r\nKathy Polanshek died of a heart attack on May 2, 2016, in Salt Lake City. Dear friends were with her when she died.\r\n\r\nKathy was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the daughter of Rudy and Lucille Polanshek. She grew up in the Salt Lake City area and was valedictorian of the graduating class at Judge Memorial High School in 1962. She then went on to a successful career in the special risk insurance field. Kathy was instrumental in the inception and growth of the special risk insurance program for college athletics for the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and their members. Through this organization, she developed special relationships both professionally and personally that would last her lifetime. Kathy also became involved with the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA). This group of professionals also resulted in many important relationships for Kathy.\r\n\r\nKathy was honored last year at NACDA's annual convention, along with many other prestigious individuals for the association's 50th year anniversary. When Kathy retired a few years ago, she retired as a Senior Vice President.\r\n\r\nKathy was active in the St. Vincent DePaul Parish in Salt Lake City. \r\n\r\nKathy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by many grieving friends, relatives, and associates. Anyone who talked with Kathy for more than 5 minutes would learn that she had a great passion for golf. Kathy will be missed by so many; she was truly a unique individual with too many wonderful qualities to list.\r\n\r\nWe would like to thank the staff at St. Mark's Hospital for the efforts they made to save Kathy. It is evident that they did everything they could, and their professionalism and dedication are much appreciated.\r\n\r\nIn lieu of flowers, we request that donations be made either to Catholic Community Services of Utah 745 East 300 South SLC, UT. 84102 or to the Judge Memorial Alumni Alliance Scholarship Fund 650 South 1100 East SLC, UT. 84102, in Kathy's name.\r\n\r\nServices will be held on Friday, May 20th at Neil O'Donnell & Son's Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, at 6:00 PM. A celebration of Kathy's life will follow at the same location. Burial will be held privately at a later date.
