Kathleen McGuire Tuckey's Obituary
Kathleen McGuire Tuckey, age 76, passed away on December 31, 2023 in Salt Lake City of natural causes.
She was born on September 29, 1947 in Salt Lake City to John Joseph and Ila Tingley McGuire. She was raised in the Sugarhouse area, attending and graduating from J.E Cosgriff Memorial School and St. Mary’s of the Wasatch High School.
At a young age she married Bruce Gregory Black. From this union came a son, Gregory John Black. Bruce died tragically in October of 1970 at the age of 22. Years later she married Alfred Tuckey Jr. From this union came another son, Jason Andrew Tuckey. She and Fred were divorced some years later.
She was a life-long member of the Catholic church, mainly attending St. Ambrose church and later she would celebrate mass at St. Joseph Villa where she resided. She was able to give a last confession and receive last rites, which was very important to her and her family.
During her life she worked as a seamstress, a pizza maker/caterer, and a candy shop manager. She enjoyed bird watching, word searches, Jeopardy, movies, catalog shopping, reading the newspaper, and time spent with her children and grandchildren. She had an amazing sense of humor and was always sharp with the comebacks! She also loved her oldies music and had some good dance moves in her younger days.
She endured many hardships and challenges during her life, particularly her last few years as her health declined. She endured them all with strength and dignity. We are comforted knowing she is no longer in pain, and that she persisted until the end.
She is survived by her sons Gregory John (Julie) Black and Jason Andrew Tuckey. Her grandchildren Taylor Gregory Black, Kennedee Marie (Jose Tirado) Black, and Parker Frank (Ashlee Morris) Black. One great grandchild Lorenzo Cruze Tirado. Her sister Mickey McGuire. Special nephews Canyon Joseph Yama and Dillon James Yama. Her ex-husband Alfred Tuckey Jr. Numerous cousins and other relatives that were near and dear to her heart.
Preceded in death by her parents, first husband Bruce, and her brother John Timothy McGuire (Gig).
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph Villa and the University of Utah Hospital for their loving and dedicated care. Per her wishes, there will be no funeral services. However her family plans to hold a celebration of life, the details of which will be shared at a later time. She will be cremated and her ashes laid to rest in the family plot with her parents. In remembrance of Kathy, please leave a comment/story on this website that we can remember her by. She would also appreciate a donation to St. Ambrose Catholic church, the Humane Society, or your favorite charity.
