Lowell James Gallacher's Obituary
Lowell James Gallacher. Born August 13, 1938 Died January 10, 2026 at the age of 87, in his home in Taylorsville Utah. He is survived by his children Debbie, Jan, John (Patricia) Jay (Sharon), Lowell Scott, and Michael James (Gustavo) 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Lowell was born to Emma Jean Kingdon and Norval James Gallacher. Lowell was the youngest of 10. His parents and siblings preceded him in death.
Lowell served in the military in both the Army, and the Utah National Guard. After leaving the accounting department of General Electric he went into sales which was his career for most of his working life. He learned how to work on computers. This interest, and developed skill carried him through the challenges of retirement. His final employment was driving flextrans for UTA.
After his retirement Lowell was active on boards and committees for many years including the SLCAP board and others. He advocated for mobile home owners’ rights and was awarded advocate of the year in 2008.
His understanding of engineering and physics as well as many other topics surpassed what he typically communicated to others.
With family he was a dedicated father who made the sacrifices necessary to support his children. He taught his children the value of work and self-sufficiency.
Lowell made, fixed, and created throughout his life. If you had a question about how things worked you found out the answers, sometimes after a much longer explanation than anticipated.
As a grandfather Lowell shared his interests with his grandchildren by taking the boys to car shows and the swap meet. Helping them fix things including computers. Taking grandchildren on motorcycle rides and otherwise involving them in his multiple interests, and providing muffins. Lowell often expressed the concept that it was his job to spoil his grandchildren.
Lowell loved family and was known to be helpful and supportive of his many nieces and nephews, siblings and other relatives.
Lowell embodied gratitude. As his health declined the many aides and professionals found in him an interesting mix of gratitude and self-determination.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 17th at the LDS church located at 3045 west Bernina Drive Taylorsville Utah 84129. There will be a viewing starting at 10:00 followed by the funeral. A separate grave dedication will be held on Tuesday January 20 at 12:00 noon at Camp Williams.
