Marguerite Solon's Obituary
1922-2018\r\nOur dear mother and grandmother passed away in her sleep on March 9, 2018. She was a kind and classy lady who never lost her interest in her friends and family, current events, or good food. She was a bright star in our lives and we miss her so.\r\nMarguerite was born to a large French Canadian family in Woonsocket Rhode Island and attended St Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. She enlisted in the Navy as an officer and nurse in World War II and was stationed at Chelsea Naval Hospital in Boston. She met our father, Edwin M Solon Jr at an officers' club in Boston and they were married one year later. They moved to Chicago where they raised their 3 children. Mom worked for Surgeons' Group in Highland Park, Illinois, and in retirement they moved to Salt Lake City.\r\nMom loved to travel, she loved music, she loved opera, and she loved to cook and entertain and go out to eat. She got to see her team, the Chicago Cubs, win the World Series in her lifetime! She kept up with the news regularly and was sharp and witty to the end. She also loved her church, the Cathedral of the Madeleine, where she was a faithful parishioner and volunteer for the St Vincent DePaul soup kitchen. Mom also volunteered for many years at the Newborn ICU at Primary Children's Hospital.\r\nOur mother had the ability to befriend many different people. She, in turn, had many friends. She saw what they had in common, rather than their difference. This was her gift.\r\n Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, her parents Aurore Beaudreau and Rodolphe Lessieur Desaulniers and her brother Andre. Marguerite and Ed were the proud parents of Jacqueline of Salt Lake City, Mark (Donnie Tankersley) of Portland Oregon and Charles (Sheila) of St Joseph Missouri and grandchildren Lindsey and Spencer. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters Therese Bergeron, Lucille Soucy, Pauline Horent and Charles Desaulniers.\r\nA funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday April 7 at 1:30 pm at the Cathedral of the Madeleine, 331 East South Temple. A vigil service will be held Friday, April 6 at 7:00 pm at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, where friends may call from 6:00-7:00 pm.
