Maria Nogales Munoz's Obituary
Grandma and Grandpa Honey were reunited on Thursday, December 1, 2022, and their daughter Amelia threw the party! While they were all reunited, we said goodbye to an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, comadre, madrina, and friend, María N. (Nogales) Muñoz.
Maria was born in Bingham (precinct Dinkeyville), Utah on August 13, 1930 to Sebastian and Dominga Nogales. Despite initial “objections” from her father (he had Maria’s fiancé thrown in jail the night before the wedding), she married the love of her life, Lupe A. Muñoz, on April 4, 1950. The cutest couple you have ever seen, they were inseparable until Lupe’s death on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.
Whether helping her family earn money during the Great Depression by making tortillas, raising six children, running a household, caring for sick family members, working in a nursing home, or assembling x-ray tubes, Maria knew the meaning of hard work. But more than anything, she loved a good celebration, and she knew how to love.
Aside from her own six kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and numerous ahijados, she always had love for more. Whether showing her love through hugs, delicious food, calling you a “big ass,” or throwing la chancla at you (because you definitely deserved it), she knew how to show love. While her memories tragically faded due to slow, progressive dementia - she continued to love. Whether it was the amazing staff and fellow residents at St. Joseph’s Villa who cared for her for the past 10 years or her baby doll that she carried with her everywhere during those last years, she continued to show love. It’s no wonder her heart finally gave out after 92 years.
María is preceded in death by her husband, Lupe A. Muñoz, daughter Amelia Bourne, and brother Elidio "Chino" Nogales. She is survived by her brother, Cristobal “Chris” Nogales, son-in-law John Bourne, children Maria "Chaparra" (Jesse) De Ollos, Lupe "Chaparro" (Shery) Muñoz, Irma (Esequiel "Jr.") Martinez, Manuel (Melody) Muñoz, and Martín (Barbara) Muñoz; grandchildren Matthew (Andreia) De Ollos, Will (Kate) Bourne, Nick De Ollos, Liz (Dean) White, María “Lupita” Martinez, Cole Muñoz, Tyler Muñoz, Stephen Martinez, Alexia (Tyler Solt) Muñoz, and Marcus (Ashley) Muñoz; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and ahijados.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Saint Joseph's Villa for all the love and compassion you’ve shown María over the past 10 years – especially during the COVID lockdown when you were the only family she could see. God bless you all.
