Mary L. Gutierrez's Obituary
1928-2017\r\nOur mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Mary Gutierrez, passed away on the evening of October 3, 2017, surrounded by her family. While we are sad to have to say good-bye, we are grateful for her full life of 89 years.\r\n\r\nMary was born on July 29, 1928 to her parents, Jose and Esther Duran Salazar in Lumberton, New Mexico. She met and married her husband, Joe, and they spent the majority of their lives in the Salt Lake City area where they raised their family. Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Gutierrez, four siblings, and her grandson, Ray. She is survived by her five children, Chelise Pannunzio (Daniel), Sue Gutierrez De La Cruz, Jim (Gail), Jenise Oberoi (Ashwani), and Jason. She is also survived by her two sisters, Viola and Rachel. She was a wonderful grandmother to her 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.\r\n\r\nMary enjoyed many things in life and, because of this, has provided us so many wonderful memories. She was a devout Catholic, attending church each Sunday, where she also enjoyed volunteering and spending time with the many friends she made there. Mary loved to shop, and loved any excuse for a new outfit or a new pair of shoes. Mary will most certainly be remembered for being a connoisseur of ice cream. She also enjoyed traveling, and seeing friends and family along the way. She spent many cold Utah winters in Yuma, Arizona with her husband. There, she became popular for her natural talents of playing darts and beating many at a game of pool. Most importantly, Mary lived for her family, enjoying every moment she had with them. Mary will always be remembered for her love and kindness towards everyone she ever met. To our mother and grandmother, we are so grateful for sharing a life with you. We are better people because of you.\r\n\r\nA Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Tuesday October 10, 2017 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North Salt Lake City, with a viewing one half hour prior to the mass. A Rosary Service will be held 7:00 p.m. Monday October 9, 2017 at Neil O'Donnell & Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South SLC, with a viewing 1 hour prior. Committal: Mount Calvary Cemetery.
