Mary Louie Kloer's Obituary
Mary Louie Kloer passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah on February 11, 2021 of natural causes. Mary was born on February 22, 1932 to Wing Louie and Mae Tue Szto in Ogden, Utah. Mary was the eighth of ten children.
Mary spent her early childhood in Ogden Chinatown until she moved to Salt Lake City to live with close family friends, Mr. and Mrs. Lee. In 1949 , the Louie’s purchased the “family house” in Salt Lake City where Wing and Mae raised their children. Mary attended schools in Ogden and Salt Lake City, graduating from South High School.
Mary worked at the Louie family restaurant, the King Joy Café, for many years as everyone’s favorite waitress and cashier. She served the wonderful food specially prepared for each guest by brother Harry and sister-in-law Helen, along with a warm greeting and a genuine interest in how you were doing that day. After the family retired from the King Joy Café, Mary worked at Key Bank and made many new friends with her colleagues.
Mary married Charles Kloer on June 13, 1965. Charles was a member of the Salt Lake City Police Department and was a champion pistol marksman. Mary and Charlie were inseparable and enjoyed supporting local restaurants with many weekly dinners with family members and friends. The Pagoda became a favorite restaurant with many good memories of food, family and friends. Mary and Charlie enjoyed their annual trips to Oceanside, California, where Charlie loved to golf, and Mary loved to shop. Mary celebrated every holiday, birthday and anniversary with gifts for family, many from her travels. Mary loved Diet Coke, anything and everything about Disney, the Utah Utes, adding to her many collections, taking the kids to Crown Burger and trips to Wendover to play the slots and keno.
Mary always loved being surrounded by family for events and get togethers. Mary is survived by her brother, William Wing Louie, and sisters-in-law, Lynn Louie and Maydel Louie, stepson Dave Kloer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. Mary was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Harry, Robert (Bob), Mack, Edward and Grant and sisters, May Jensen, Bessie Louie and Jean Louie.
The family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Mary’s caregivers at Legacy Village Sugarhouse and for her wonderful doctors with Intermountain Healthcare and Wasatch Dialysis. We are also very grateful to Mary’s niece Marjean and her good friend Linda Brown for the loving and compassionate care provided over the years.
Private services for family will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery under the direction of Pastor Chris Myers-Tegeder of the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or to the American Diabetes Association of Salt Lake or to the American Cancer Society.
