Molly Benavidez-Segura's Obituary
Molly Benavidez Segura passed away on November 14, 2023 age of 102. She died at home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Las Tusas, New Mexico on July 10, 1921 and later married Juan Jose Benavidez.
Molly grew up on a farm, one of eleven children who understood the value of hard work. It was a trait that she demonstrated by working various jobs throughout her life to ensure that she could help her children and grandchildren with their life needs. Those jobs included migrant field worker, fork lift operator, commercial tent fabricator, school bus driver and grocery cashier.
She enjoyed being busy, by design because she could not be idle for a minute. She worked tirelessly around the house, even mowing her yard into her mid-nineties because she wanted to show that she still could. Molly also enjoyed camping, fishing and hours of playing cards with her siblings and extended family. Traveling and exploring was important to her and she overcame her fear of flying and water to both fly and take a boat trip to Vancouver Island. In her later years with the help of her daughter Corine and granddaughter Becky, she maintained a busy schedule of attending church, participating in senior citizen activities, traveling, and playing poker at her son Johnnie and daughter-in-law Fabby’s home. Molly was an exceptional individual who was truly loved by many.
She is survived by her children: Corine Giron, Denece Martinez (Randy), Johnnie (Fabby) and Juan/Jube (Addie); grandchildren: Becky Benavidez, Michael Romero, Mindy Martinez, Michelle Martinez and Antonio Benavidez; six great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Molly was preceded in death by her parents Narciso and Ruben Espinoza, and her first husband Juan, a son Charlie and daughter Flo. Her second husband Erminio Segura and her seven siblings also preceded her death: Olive Jaramillo, Elsie Valdez, Jose Espinoza, Sally Herrera, Tillie Granado, and Ruth Espinoza.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm and a Catholic rosary at 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at the Neil O’Donnell and Sons Mortuary, located at 372 East 100 South, SLC. A Catholic Mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 257 North 700 West, SLC, on Monday, November 20th at 11:00 am. A graveyard service at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery will follow the mass. After which, a reception will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
The family gratefully extends their appreciation to Elevation Hospice RN Lisa Thomas and her aide Eva Flores for their loving support and assistance during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Molly’s name be made to the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.
