Nikki Lynne Hammond's Obituary
Nikki Lynne Hammond was a feisty, fun and loving soul who was taken from her family and friends far too soon and too suddenly at the young age of 63.
Nikki was born in Price, UT and she lived most of her life in Utah. She was a dedicated supporter of Communications Workers of America Union during her long career at Lumen, originally Mountain Bell. She was active in meaningful work to support equal and fair treatment for all, women’s health rights, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, and care and protection of animals.
Many know Nikki as a die-hard football fan, especially of the University of Utah and Denver Broncos. She would play-call better than most coaches, and officiate better than most of the referees. It was easy to see her dedication to her teams, and she loved the camaraderie that came with being a fan. So many of her friends are those with whom she rejoiced in the wins, endured the losses, and celebrated whatever came during the non-football season.
And while she will be remembered as an energetic and passionate football fan, those who were closest to her know that she was even more energetic and passionate about those she loved. Nikki was generous and had so much love to give. Sometimes that love would come through food she would make for others. Sometimes that love would come through alerting loved ones to sales on toilet paper and canned tuna. Sometimes that love would come in the form of a text or a call about something that seemed unrelated to what she could not verbalize, which was often I’m worried about you, I miss you, or I love you. Nikki was always caring, often thinking about how others were feeling, and she wanted the best for those around her. She loved fiercely, laughed loudly and was always the brightest light in the room.
Nikki is survived by her partner, John; her three loving children, Ben, Ashley and Whitney; mother, Verla; siblings, Mike and Gia; and dozens of family and friends who will miss her dearly. Nikki is preceded in death by her father and fellow Ute fan, Ray.
