Richard Ignacio Avila's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, father, uncle, cousin, and friend, Richard Ignacio Avila, on April 10, 2025.
We take comfort in knowing that Richard was welcomed home by the Lord and embraced by eternal light.
Richard was born on March 16, 1961, in Salt Lake City, Utah—the first of seven children born to Ubaldo Walter Avila and Erma Lee Avila. He is survived by his siblings: Tony Avila, Molly Gonzales, Arthur Avila, Corina (Arthur) Vierra, Frank (Lisa) Avila, and Orlando (Belen) Avila.
Richard was a protector at heart. He would do anything for his family. Though he may have carried regrets, he rarely—if ever—spoke of them. Instead, he met life with relentless determination. Whether he was fighting for something, for someone, or for himself, he gave it everything he had.
His life wasn’t always easy, It was imperfect, Richard had his own cross to carry, just like we all do, but Richard lived it his way—driven, fierce, and full of heart. At times, that drive was a gift; at other times, a weight. But through every high and low, one thing was certain: Richard left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.
He bore his burdens quietly, never asking for anything in return. I believe family meant everything to him, even if he didn’t always say it out loud. His love ran deep—deep enough to carry silently. And even when it wasn’t spoken, it was always there.
As we grieve his loss, we also find peace in knowing he is finally free—free from pain, and wrapped in love and light. Richard’s spirit will live on in all of us, and his memory will forever be a part of our hearts.
Richard is survived by his brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his father and mother Ubaldo Walter Avila and Erma Lee Avila, his grandparents Grace Padilla, (Nino) Ignacio Pena, Belarmina Sisneros Avila and Anselmo Avila, and his children Ricky Avila, Derick Avila, and Annie Grace.
