Richard Dennis' Obituary
1932 - 2018\r\n\r\nOur wonderful and caring husband, father and grandfather, Richard (Dick) Dennis, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2018 surrounded by family.\r\n\r\nDick was born on November 25, 1932 as the only child to Austin Henry and Gladys Wood Dennis. His widowed mother raised Dick after his father was killed in a mining accident when he was three years old. Dick spent his boyhood days roaming the hillsides of Park City. He was athletically gifted, and played football and basketball for the Park City Miners as a teenager, and enjoyed golf and bowling in his later years. After graduation in 1951 from Park City High School, he worked for six months for United Park City Mines gaining rich experience in hard labor in the mining industry. He was inducted into the Army at Fort Douglas on January 6, 1953 marking the beginning of his military service. Being the only child of a widow, he was spared combat service in Korea. He married his high school sweetheart, Patricia (Patsy) Fegan, on June 18, 1955 during summer break from classes, and graduated 3 years later from the University of Utah with a BS Degree in accounting. Dick and Patsy were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Pamela and Paula, making their life complete. Sadly, Patsy passed away in 1985. After a difficult time adjusting, Dick fell in love again and married LaRue Burke on May 3, 1988.\r\n\r\nDick retired from Unisys in October 1991 after a long career in accounting as a manager, and it was a welcome achievement. LaRue took early retirement 5 years later and the two enjoyed their life together traveling, and just celebrated 30 years of marriage in May of this year. Dick loved writing letters to the editor of the Salt Lake Tribune and it became a much enjoyed passion of his in his retirement years. He was very witty and opinionated with a lot to say, which often got him published in the Salt Lake Tribune.\r\n\r\nDick is survived by his wife, LaRue Burke Dennis, and his daughters, Pamela Fisher and husband Dave, Paula Bond and husband Robert, and six grandchildren: Madeline, McCayla, Maxwell, Elizabeth (deceased), Angela and Austin. We would like to give a special thank you to his two granddaughters, Madeline, a hospice nurse, and McCayla, a CNA, who took care of him in his home during the last few weeks of his life. Also, a thank you to the Silverado hospice team for the care and support provided at end of life.\r\n\r\nFuneral Services will be held at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 E. 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 1:00 pm with a viewing to be held one hour prior. Interment, Mt. Calvary Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice. Papa we love you! Go Utes!
