Richard W. Riel's Obituary
"Dick"\r\n\r\nOur beloved father, grandpa, brother, and uncle, Richard W. Riel passed away on August 25, 2018 in the home of his daughter, Toni, and son-in-law, Alfred, who welcomed him into their home and lovingly cared for him in his declining years.\r\n\r\nRichard was born on May 18, 1920 in Pittsfield, New Hampshire to William and Albertina Currier Riel. As one of the "Greatest Generation", he proudly served in the 1050th Army Air Force Base Unit during WWII. Dick married Katherine Tangaro in Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Feb. 19, 1944. Together they served the parish faithfully and tirelessly for many years. He and Kay loved entertaining family and friends during the holidays with their delicious homemade ravioli and pies. They were married for 60 years until the time of Kay's death in 2004. Richard enjoyed time spent at the Taylorsville Senior Center with his many friends and Fun Time trips "going West"! He worked for Otis Elevator, Eimco and Gates City Steel, from which he retired.\r\n\r\nHe is survived by his daughter, Toni (Alfred) Joyce, grandchildren, Heather and Eric, one brother, Paul, and many nieces and nephews.\r\n\r\nHe was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 7 brothers and sisters.\r\n\r\nA funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 1040 West 400 South, where friends may call one hour prior. Committal with military honors, Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 4th Avenue and T Street. Funeral Directors, Neil O'Donnell and Sons.\r\n\r\nThe family extends their appreciation and thanks to Quality Hospice workers, McKenzie, Alexis, Tricia, Ruth, and Dr. MacPherson for their compassionate care of our loved one.
