Stephen Wayne Hill's Obituary
Stephen Wayne Hill, age 81, passed away on October 2, 2023, at his home in West Valley City. Wayne was born on August 14, 1942, in Logan, Utah, to Luella Eliza Hancey and Moroni Leroy Hill. He married Anne Howa on October 12, 1963, in Salt Lake City and had three children.
He retired from Kennecott Copper Corporation in 1997 where he worked for 30 years as a computer programmer. Prior to his employment at Kennecott, Wayne worked at Hill Airforce Base as a computer programmer while taking programming courses at the University of Utah. He also managed the Capitol Theater and worked as an usher at the Utah Theater where he met Anne. As a kid, he worked with his father and brothers at the Hill Transfer Trucking company, delivering candy to regional movie theaters.
Wayne enjoyed taking care of his cats, turtle, and backyard birds. He was avid in his pursuit of knowledge; studying space travel, technology, and WWII history. He was a huge fan of science fiction novels and movies, and loved watching sports, doing yoga, and strength training. Most of all, Wayne was deeply devoted to his family and placed their happiness and wellbeing above everything else.
He is survived by his three children, Connie, David (Erika), and Debbie; his granddaughter, Mabel; brother in law Fred (Beckie); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his father and mother, Roy and Luella; his three brothers, Vernon, Morrie, and Dick; his sister, Betty (Jim); and brothers in law; Abe (Matilda), George, Raymond, and Ronnie. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating money to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or to the Humane Society of Utah.
We miss him dearly and take solace in one of his favorite quotes from Hippocrates: “It is through error that man tries and rises. It is through tragedy he learns. All the roads of learning begin in darkness and go out into the light.”
