Teve Mary Katter's Obituary
Teve Mary Ortega Katter, age 90, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, in Draper Utah. She was born on September 8, 1932, in Garland Utah to Sesaria Hurtado Ortega and Joseph Ortega.
Teve married Joseph LeRoy Katter in Augusta, Georgia in 1952.
Teve met Joe in Salt Lake City, Utah prior to him enlisting in the Korean War. He called from Georgia and said get on a train and meet me in Georgia to marry me! She left without telling her parents, got on a train and met him there! Joe was a professional pianist and was called to entertain the troops and officers while serving in the army.
Teve spent her years raising her family of six children and worked in the many nightclubs and restaurants owned by her and Joe Katter.
Teve spent countless hours in nightclubs across the Wasatch Front enjoying the music of Joe and his Joe Katter Trio.
On nights when she was not working or with Joe, you would find her in the front room of her house listening to her vinyl records on the stereo. One of her favorite artists was Engelbert Humperdinck. She would listen to him for hours.
On Teve’s 80th birthday her son George and his wife Dawn took her to see Engelbert Humperdinck at the Peppermill Concert Hall in Wendover, Nevada. She was delighted to see him in person.
On Saturday nights after they would close the restaurant on 6200 south; Katter Brothers Pizzeria; they would head to Wendover to play their favorite game; the roulette table.
She is survived by her children; JoAnn Katter - West Jordan, George (Dawn) Katter – South Jordan, John Katter – Midvale, Jimmy (Garyldine) Katter – Camas, WA., 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter due in September.
Sisters – Mary Gaitin, Lola Allen and Rosie Wall.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph L. Katter, son Joseph Michael Katter, son Jeffrey Louis Katter, parents Joseph and Sesaria Ortega, siblings, Chinta, John, Josie, Jesse, Lupe, Tony, Albert and Angie.
Mass will be at 11:00 am Friday, June 9, 2023 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 9757 S. 1700 E. Sandy, UT. Her interment will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery; 275 “U” Street, Salt Lake City, UT.
