Verna Dolores Valdez's Obituary
Verna Dolores Valdez, age 91, passed away on December 12th, 2025 in Layton, Utah. She was born on April 30th, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Isabell Garcia and Joe Montoya. She was married to Donald Salas. He died in October 1986. She married Floriano (Fred) Valdez on December 11th, 1987. He died in March 2011.
Verna was the matriarch of the family. She was a homemaker. She loved shopping for clothes or food. She loved to cook, especially posale', which everyone loved and her fruitcake which was made from scratch.
She was a gentle loving person that always made sure her family was well taken care for. She enjoyed music and dancing and traveling to Florida and New Mexico to visit family. She is survived by her daughters; Loretta (Joe) Mendez, Juanita Garner, sons; Manuel (Lynette), Richard (Ricky), Ronald (Ronnie) Salas and four granddaughters, eleven great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren; brothers and sister, Johnny, Benjamin and Linda. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Johnny.
The family would like to thank the Intermountain Health Palliative Care and the Hospice Inspirational staff for their exceptional care.
The holy rosary will be recited at 7:00PM at Neil O'Donnell Funeral Home, 372 E 100 S Salt Lake City, Utah where relatives and friends may visit between 6:00PM and 8:00PM on December 17th. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00AM on December 18th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1040 West 400 South.
