William "Bill" Leroy Myers' Obituary
William (Bill) Leroy Myers, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 3, 2025.
He was born on April 8, 1947, to William and Ida Myers in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was the second of two children. He and his older sister Sharon created many wonderful memories together. He adored his older sister.
He spent his childhood riding bikes, swimming, diving, playing basketball and baseball. He was an excellent swimmer and diver. In later years, he would spend hours in the ocean during vacations with his family. He loved to visit the ocean and beach.
He met the love of his life when he was 12 and she was 11. Kathie was his angel.
They spent many years riding bikes, playing night games and baseball. He would put Kathie on his handlebars and take her everywhere.
As soon as he was able, he loved driving everywhere. He had a love of cars and driving that continued throughout his life. He put thousands of miles on multiple cars.
Childhood friends became sweethearts. Bill and Kathie dated all through high school. He graduated from West High School in 1965.
During his high school years, he spent the summers working at Western Steel with his dad.
On February 18, 1966, he and Kathie were married.
The first of their three children, little Billy, joined the family, while he still had a full head of dark luscious locks. They became the three musketeers. They would go fishing on the side of the road, where he would bring his barbeque to cook lunch and dinner. Disneyland trips began and drives upon drives.
Every Saturday he and little Billy would go wash the car. They would often get something to eat and would share with a homeless person or just spend time together.
Soon his adorable daughter Libby came along, and as he put it, turned every hair grey. She had him wrapped around her little finger. Before Libby was a year old, he would hold her in his arms and take her for bike rides around the neighborhood.
They continued with Disney trips, homemade pizza and more drives.
Next came Brandon and with him went the hair. He loved spending time with him and all his friends and adventures. He also tolerated a few cars being demolished and a few destroyed oil pans.
He worked various jobs after high school and later became a journeyman machinist at May Machine.
Every day, he went to a job he disliked in order to support his family, he always did everything he could for his family.
He retired at 58 after 40 years at May Machine and started his favorite job of driving Kathie anywhere and everywhere.
He was always supportive of his Wife, Children, and Grandchildren. When they had programs, sports, or events he was always there. He would travel anywhere to support them. We knew he did not mind the drive.
The coaches at West High did not know what to do when little Billy was wrestling and won. There was no stopping him from running out on the mat and picking him up.
One of the most difficult things he had to do was sending little Billy on a mission. He and Kathie were so happy to support him, but it was 2 years of missing him every day. he was so excited to see him that he almost knocked him over when he stepped off the plane. He could not wait another second to hug him after two years.
Every great dad becomes a super Grandpa, and he perfected it. His Grandchildren have great memories of going for rides with him and stopping somewhere to eat.
You could always catch him in the crowd at the Grandchildren's T-ball and Jr Jazz games cheering them on.
All his Children's friends quickly became part of the family, and once you were family you were always family. Many of them thought of him as a father.
One of his favorite pastimes was taking his family out to lunch or dinner and being familiar with many restaurants.
He finished his life as it began at 12 with Kathie. He was so excited to retire and become her full-time chauffeur.
He spent his last years with Kathie and his family, enjoying drives, restaurants, takeout and watching his favorite programs on TV (Andy Griffith, Steinfeld, Monk and Little House on the Prairie).
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bill and Ida Myers, his sister Sharon Soria (brothers-in-law Tom Sperry and Phil Soria), his father and mother-in-law Glenn and Elsie Wheadon, his adorable twin grandson’s Keagan and Kelt Myers, his brother and sister-in-law Bob and Mary Lou Higham, his nephews Rob Higham and Rick Clifford, his brother-in-law Kenneth Gray and niece Jennifer Lace.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie. His 3 children, Bill (Jenny) and their children; Will (McCartnie), Taft, Ammon, Carson (Hannah and his great-grandson Buster), and Heber. His daughter Liberty "Libby" Bishop (Matt) and his son Brandon and his children Ida and Milo.
He will always and forever have a permanent place in our hearts. He was loved, adored, and admired. The way he lived his life and loved his family taught us so much!
The family would like to thank the incredible staff in the ER and ICU at St. Mark's Hospital and Hospice for their care of him.
We love you always and forever!
